This morning, Steve Hitner of the Massachusetts Alimony Reform Coalition had some kind words for me.  Without going into what he said about me personally, he suggested to a group of small businesspeople that I am taking on the Massachusetts Bar on the subject of alimony.

I won't go so far as to agree that I'm taking on the Bar.  I will say that the question of how to "fix" Massachusetts law as it pertains to alimony awards is an interesting one.  As I see it, how we treat support for former spouses touches on a range of important social and legal principles, from tax policy to individual liberty to the way we perceive marriage itself.

I'm helping Steve by writing an amicus brief on behalf of the Coalition in the case of Pierce v. Pierce, which goes before the Supreme Judicial Court sometime next month.  I'll keep you posted.
